Acne Vulgaris (or acne) is a common skin disease, characterised by scaly red skin, blackheads and whiteheads, pinheads, pimples, nodules and possibly scarring. Acne generally affects the face, upper part of the chest, and the back. While severe acne is inflammatory, acne can also manifest in non-inflammatory forms. Acne often occurs during adolescence, and continues into adulthood. During adolescence, acne is generally caused by an increase in testosterone. Although acne diminishes over time, some people have to cope with this condition even in their thirties, forties and beyond.
